Parvati Kisku with her child
Parvati Kisku is a High School educated woman in Duladeeh village of Jamtara district. Her family of seven members has two women. All the time she was engaged in domestic chores. She had no knowledge of government schemes and facilities, nor was she associated with any group. She was unaware of the facilities available at anganwadi centre for pregnant women.
Even when the Prayas project was implemented in her village, she was reluctant to participate in its meetings. After lots of persuasion, she attended one meeting. She found this very first meeting useful as at that time she was
pregnant. She came to realise that many benefits were available from the Government for women like her. She felt that she needed to give attention to her health and nutrition.
She got registered at the anganwadi centre and started getting free services for the pregnant women from anganwadi. She was registered under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), or Prime Minister’s Scheme for Mothers. She got immunisation and health check-up done from time to time. She gave birth to a boy at government hospital on June 24, 2019.
Now she is now regularly attending all the meetings. She shares information about PMMVY, ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme) and PDS (Public Distribution System) with fellow villagers. With the help of two adolescent girls of the village she is now making other women and girls aware these schemes.
